The Recognition Contd...

A study conducted by the Stockholm School of Economics on the Bonnier family formed the basis of a new concept known as 'Family Business as a Heirloom'.

In a period that covered over 200 years, the Bonnier Group, which started off with a small bookstore in Copenhagen, went on to become a media conglomerate with sales of SKr8 20.1 billion in 2005.

By 2006, the Bonnier Group was operating in 20 countries9 and consisted of over 200 companies. The group was privately held by 73 members comprising fifth to eighth generations of the Bonnier family.

Background Note

The founder of the Bonnier Group was Gutkind Hirschel, son of a banker in Dresden, Germany. In 1801, Hirschel moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, adopted the name Gerhard Bonnier, and started a lending library in 1804.

He published a book titled Underfulde og sandfærdige kriminalhistorier (Amazing true stories of crime) in the same year. His business expanded rapidly to include publishing and printing.
